New York
As of late 2023, online casinos still need to be legal in New York. However, there have been significant efforts and discussions regarding the legalization of online gambling, which could potentially generate billions in revenue for the state. Although online casino gambling bills did not pass in 2022 or 2023, New York remains a strong contender to legalize online casino gaming soon, possibly by 2024. Until then, residents can enjoy social casinos, commercial and tribal casinos, and sports betting at retail and online sportsbooks.
Vermont
Vermont has recently legalized online sports betting, which is set to launch in January 2024. The state's Department of Liquor and Lottery has selected DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics Sportsbook to operate mobile sports wagering platforms. No physical betting sites will be established in the state, with all betting conducted electronically. A portion of the generated revenue will be allocated towards state programs to help Vermonters struggling with gambling addiction. It is important to note that other forms of online gambling, such as online casinos, remain off-limits in Vermont.
